JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A man arrested for a shooting in Jonesboro Thursday night is now charged with first-degree battery.

A news release from Jonesboro police states Cordell Hughes, 26, of Jonesboro was arrested the night of the shooting after officers found him hiding in a home in the 3200-block of Fairview Dr.

Hughes is accused of shooting Aremon Wilkins, 28, of Jonesboro, in the front yard of the same home the suspect was hiding in.

Officers were simultaneously dispatched to a shots fired call at Fairview Dr. and to a person who had been shot on Meador Ave.

The new release states officers responded to Meador first and located Wilkins in a residence with two gunshot wounds. The crime scene was located later on Fairview Dr.

According to the affidavit, officers found two .380 caliber shell casings in front of the house on Fairview Dr. They also found two more shell casings at the back of the house.

Hughes was found in the house, hiding behind a washer and under a pile of clothes.
