OAK GROVE HEIGHTS, AR-- "Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs,"  it's a nationwide program that's been around in Arkansas for 8 years, and one Region 8 school is not only a charter member, but has the largest participation in the state.  Oak Grove elementary has about 450 kids, K thru 4th grade, that turn in their books for hooks every spring.  Oak Grove even has it's own fishing pond on the school's campus.

The program teaches the students about biology and math, then takes those classroom lessons into the field for a day of fishing.  The program is funded through state and federal funds as well as donations from local communities. There are about 40 schools statewide that participate in the program including four in Region 8.
