SIKESTON, MO (KAIT) - Damage to a fiber optic line in southeast Missouri made it difficult to use the phone, including calling 911, according Sikeston Department of Public Safety Capt. James McMillen.

On Monday, Sikeston DPS was notified Monday that the St. Louis, MO market area was experiencing call failures due to damage to the fiber optic line.

The interruptions were centered to phone services and possible 911 services in Butler, Dunklin, Scott, and Stoddard counties.

Verizon Wireless and Local Exchange Carrier personnel were on the scene and working to restore service.

On Tuesday morning, McMillen said the system should be restored with 911 working properly.noting it is not known how long services will be diminished.
