ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Harding volleyball team came up short in a five set loss at Ouachita on Tuesday in Great American Conference. The Tigers won 25-23, 21-25, 18-25, 25-21, 15-8.
Harding falls to 10-4 overall and 2-2 in the GAC. Ouachita improves to 11-3 overall and 3-1 in the GAC.
SET ONE HIGHLIGHTS
Ouachita took a 11-8 lead early in the set before Harding went on a 4-0 run to lead 12-11. With the Tigers up 19-18, the Lady Bisons won the next three points to lead 20-19. After a Harding error, Ouachita had three straight kills to lead 23-20. The Lady Bisons had two kills to pull within one 24-23 but a kill by Tabatha Huckabee won the set for the Tigers 25-23. Despite the set loss, Harding hit .259 with 12 kills.
SET TWO HIGHLIGHTS
Harding opened the second set with a 5-0 run and held onto the lead until Ouachita tied the set at 21. The Lady Bisons had a kill, two blocks and Ouachita had a bad set to win the set 25-21.
SET THREE HIGHLIGHTS
Trailing 13-8, Harding went on a 15-2 run to lead 23-15. The Lady Bisons had six kills, three blocks and forced five attack errors during the run. Ouachita had a service error and an attack error to give Harding a 25-18 set win.
SET FOUR HIGHLIGHTS
The fourth set stayed close until Harding went on a 3-0 run to lead 20-18 on two kills and a block. Ouachita went on a 7-1 run to win the set 25-21 and force a deciding fifth set. The Lady Bisons hit .028 in the set and had nine attack errors.
SET FIVE HIGHLIGHTS
Ouachita took a 7-3 lead early in the fifth set on five Harding attack errors. The Tigers closed the set on an 8-5 run on six kills to win the set 15-8. The Lady Bisons hit .000 in the set on six kills, six attack errors on 28 attempts.
Harding hit .148 in the match with 28 attack errors.
Ouachita hit .134 with 51 kills and 30 attack errors.
The Lady Bisons won the battle at the net with 17 blocks to the Tigers 12.
Harding was led by senior Sara Smith and sophomore Zoe Hardin who each had 12 kills. Hardin picked up the double-double with a career-high 15 blocks. It was second time this season and the third time in her career Hardin has had over 10 blocks in a match.
Abigail Glosup had 41 assists and a career-high five blocks in the match for Harding.
Taylor Lake led the Lady Bisons defense with 25 digs. Alex Nolan added 10 digs and a season-high three service aces for Harding.
Ouachita was led by Adrianna Nolly and Kori Bullard who each had 13 kills. Ashley Wake led the defense with 26 digs.
Harding head coach Meredith Fear: "Tonight was a tight match against two quality teams. We unfortunately came up short. We made to many errors and couldn't convert down the stretch. Five set matches really test a team. We need to answer back stronger on Thursday at home."
Harding will host Southern Arkansas in GAC action on Thursday at 6 p.m., at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.
