MEMPHIS, Tenn. (9/27/16) – The Arkansas State men's golf team shot a final-round 299 Tuesday at the Colonial Country Club, bringing its 54-hole total at the Memphis Intercollegiate to 905 as it completed play at the two-day tournament in sixth place among 13 teams.
The Red Wolves entered today's last round in fifth place, but dropped a spot in the final standings despite producing its best score of the tourney. A-State, which recorded 59 pars to tie the third most among all teams, began play yesterday with a 306 and followed with a 300 for the second 18 holes.
A-State finished just two strokes behind fifth-place Southern Miss and within three strokes of host-school Memphis, which placed fourth. Little Rock claimed the championship with an 895, while Lipscomb finished runner-up with an 897 and Central Arkansas third with an 898.
Andrew Huseman and Tanner Napier led the Red Wolves as the junior standouts tied for fifth and 10th, respectively. Huseman shot a combined 222 (74-72-76) and collected his eighth career top-10 finish. Napier posted a 224 (75-77-72) while putting together the seventh top-10 performance of his career.
Following Huseman and Napier for A-State, Joel Wendin finished tied for 33rd place with a 230 (78-76-76), Matthew Loiacano tied for 51st with a 234 and Trent Jones tied for 53rd with a 235 (81-75-79). Competing as an individual, Kevin Kramarski placed tied for 71st with a 246 (80-87-79).
Arkansas State returns to action Oct. 10-11 at the Mountaineer Intercollegiate, set to be played in Bridgeport, W.Va.
