Sheriff: Act like a clown, you will go to jail

CROSS COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - One Region 8 sheriff is not clowning around. He has "zero-tolerance" for bozos.

Cross County Sheriff J.R. Smith announced Wednesday that his department would not tolerate people dressing up as clowns in his county.

His comments came after his department received a report of four men dressed as clowns driving around West Merriman Street in Wynne.

Smith stated on social media that he had received numerous texts and phone calls from citizens saying they have heard of multiple reports of clown sightings, which he called "foolishness."

"I assure you that I will have a zero-tolerance to this," Smith said. "If someone wishes to dress up and conceal their identity with the intent to scare or harass our citizens they will be arrested and transported to the sheriff's office."

Smith ended by saying he would not tolerate anyone intentionally causing public or personal fear to residents.
