JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A woman told police a fight over fast food ended with a man hitting her in the head with a baseball bat.

Just after midnight Tuesday, Jonesboro police responded to an unknown medical emergency in the 900-block of French Street.

When they arrived, they found a 36-year-old woman standing in the doorway, holding a hammer, covered in blood.

The victim told police a 34-year-old named suspect had hit her in the head with a baseball bat.

According to the initial incident report, the man awoke hungry at 11:30 p.m.

When he discovered she had eaten some of his leftover fast food, he started yelling at her.

As the argument escalated, she said the man grabbed her in a bear hug and began to squeeze her. The two fell onto the bed and he climbed on top of her, placing his hands over her throat and mouth.

She said the man then pulled out a pocket knife and placed it up to her throat and face.

The woman screamed, awakening her daughter, who came to the bedroom door and saw the suspect pick up a “small silver and black baseball bat” and hit the victim in the head.

Officers cleared the house, finding a “large amount of blood in the back bedroom” along with a “small pool of blood on the pillow and mattress and drops of blood leading to the window and out the bedroom door.”

After getting the man’s name and description, police went to his relative’s house on Vine Street, but the suspect was not there.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.

No arrests have been made at this time. The suspect faces possible charges of aggravated assault on a family or household member; theft of $1,000 or less-all others; and third-degree domestic battering.
