A-State's May and Warrington Earn SBC Weekly Volleyball Awards

JONESBORO, Ark. (10/3/16) –Carlisa May and Mallory Warrington of the Arkansas State volleyball squad have been named the Sun Belt Conference's Offensive Player of the Week and Setter of the Week, respectively, in an announcement by the league office Monday afternoon.

A native of Lee's Summit, Mo., May led the A-State offense with 13 kills in each of the team's sweeps versus ULM and Louisiana-Lafayette for a 4.33 per set average. The sophomore registered hitting percentages of .346 and .323, respectively, in each match to total a mark of .333 for the weekend.

May has the most kills for the Red Wolves this season with 259, a total that ranks second in the conference and 31st in the nation. The outside hitter's 3.92 kills per set mark is best on the team, second in the league, and 57th in the country. This accolade is her first of the season and ninth career weekly award. It's her second career OPOW honor with the other seven being Freshman of the Week awards from a season ago.

Warrington earned her sixth straight Setter of the Week award by handing out 68 assists (11.33 per set) in the team's two wins this past weekend.  The senior also posted 18 digs, 10 kills, and three service aces with no errors during the two contests. She dished out 33 helpers in the win over ULM Friday before handing out 35 in Saturday's sweep of Louisiana-Lafayette. The setter registered 12 digs against the Ragin' Cajuns for her team-best sixth double-double of the year.

A native of Lake St. Louis, Mo., Warrington leads the league and ranks third in the country in assists per set at 11.79. Her total assists mark of 778 is second in the country. She has 3,702 for her career and is just 27 away from passing Kelly Linder's total of 3,728 for third most in school history. The Setter of the Week award is her 11th of her career and 12th weekly award of her career.

Arkansas State continues league play Oct. 7 with a road contest versus Texas State. First serve from San Marcos is set for 6:30 p.m. The Red Wolves ranked 66th in the NCAA's first Rating Percentage Index (RPI) report of the season released Monday.
