JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Aldermen on the Jonesboro City Council approved the acceptance of a $31,000 grant for the Jonesboro Police Department.

The money comes from the U.S. Department of Justice JAG Grant.

The department will use part of the grant money for crash-data analysis software and investigator training for JPD to collect evidence for traffic accidents.

The rest of the money will go toward the implementation of electronic ticket systems for some police cruisers.

The money will pay for printers and scanners for 14 police cars.

According to the City of Jonesboro, the purchase of mobile scanners and printers will jump-start the police department's migration to the E-Ticket system that will decrease time at traffic stops.

With this equipment, JPD will also be able to take advantage of the E-Crash software provided, at no cost, by the state which will eventually replace its current accident reporting software.
