Paragould police warn of IRS scam

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - Paragould police are warning residents about IRS scammers posing as police officers.

The callers use local officers' names to legitimize their claims, according to a news release from the department.

The scammers are also threatening to arrest people who do not pay.

Victims are told to pay what they owe with a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer.

The release says the IRS will never demand immediate payment, call you about owed taxes, require specific payment methods, ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone, or threaten to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to arrest you for not paying taxes.
