WEINER, AR (KAIT) -

A Region 8 festival celebrating Arkansas’s largest crop is turning 40-years-old.

The 40th Annual Arkansas Rice Festival is set for Saturday, Oct. 8, in Weiner.

The festival celebrates the rich heritage of rice farming across Arkansas and harvest season.

Among the planned events will be an old-time rice threshing demonstration, a rice cook-off, carnival rides, games, a parade, pageant, and street dance.

Admission to the festival is free, as are the carnival rides and a rice-tasting lunch.

There will also be a wiener dog race and karaoke contests for all ages.

Several booths will be set up inside the Arkansas Rice Festival Building. T-shirts and a special 40th annual rice cookbook will be for sale.
