JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

UPDATE: Jonesboro police are searching for a man with a “northern accent” suspected in an early morning shooting in North Jonesboro.

The shooting occurred around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday during a house party in the 1100-block of Mays Lane.

The 24-year-old victim told police an “unknown black male” had shot him in the leg, according to the initial incident report.

The victim had a gunshot wound to his upper outer left thigh with an exit wound on the inside of the leg.

He also had another entrance wound to the upper right thigh which, according to the report, may have been from the same bullet.

The victim said the shooter and another kept trying to talk to a woman at the party, but she did not want to speak with him.

When he went to tell the two men to leave the party, he said an argument began.

As the victim walked out the front door of the house, he said he “heard gunshots and felt a sharp pain in his leg.”

Before being taken to the hospital, the victim said the suspected shooter was a “skinny black man, wearing a black jacket and black pants.”

He told police he did not know the gunman.

A woman who was at the party said she talked with the shooting suspect, but did not know him.

She said the man was from New York and had a “northern accent.” She also described the suspected shooter as being a skinny, 5’7”, 25- to 30-year-old man.

She said he was with another black man with dreads down to his shoulders.

Another witness who ran outside when he heard the gunshots reported seeing two black men drive away from the scene in an “older model white truck,” possibly a GMC Jimmy.

Anyone with information on either suspect should call Crimestoppers at 870-935-STOP.

While clearing the house, officers discovered a defaced 12-gauge shotgun in a rear bedroom and spent shotgun shells in the yard.

Investigators also found bullet holes in a front window and the north wall of the front bedroom. Officers recovered the bullet from the wall and logged it, along with the other items, into evidence.
