Racial slurs hurled at woman, children walking into store

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A Jonesboro woman told police a man called her racial slurs as she was walking into a store.

Around 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jonesboro Police Officer Garrett Thomason responded to the Walmart Neighborhood Market, 3319 Harrisburg Rd.

The 37-year-old complainant told Thomason as she was walking into the store with her children a white male driving a yellow Chevrolet Cobalt "began calling her racial slurs."

According to the woman, the man driving leaned out the window and called her the "N"-word along with saying he would run her and her kids over if they didn't get out of the road.

After the exchange, the suspect left and the woman was only able to get the first three characters of the license plate.

Thomason said he reviewed store footage of the incident.

The officer stated the car came within about three feet of the woman and her kids.The window rolled down and the suspect was seen leaning out and looking in their direction.

Thomason noted the woman and her children were in the painted crosswalk area when the incident occurred.

Police were unable to obtain a full license plate number for the vehicle.
