SEARCY, AR (KAIT) -

Students at two universities in Arkansas received alerts urging them to evacuate campus buildings. The alerts, however, were false.

According to ABC affiliate KATV, both the University of Central Arkansas and the Harding University Public Safety Department are letting students and staff know about the false emergency notice.

The notices said there was an emergency on campus and told students to “calmly evacuate all buildings.”

Both universities quickly sent out tweets correcting the error.

The alerts were sent to thousands of college students across the nation.

According to KTRK-TV, the alert was only meant for Lone Star College in Houston, TX.

The school’s University Park was evacuated for a potential gas leak.

Other schools receiving the message including Penn State, Ole Miss, University of Colorado-Boulder and Oklahoma State University.
