MARKED TREE (KAIT) -

Students in Marked Tree are now a little more prepared for college.

The high school is in its first year of a College 101 program.

It provides students with guidance for taking the ACT, applying to colleges, and much more.

According to the program's teacher, Bobbie Pharis, the skills students learn are valuable both in and out of a college classroom.

"I wanted to spend a lot of time with them, like researching careers and making college budgets, because a lot of kids wait until April and then they start panicking when they see they're not getting a lot of Pell grant money or how much in loans they're getting,” said Pharis.

The students are also required to job shadow professionals and apply early to colleges.

According to Pharis, some of the students in the program have already been accepted to more than one college.
