High school seniors gain school credit by giving back

Marked Tree community service Seniors

MARKED TREE (KAIT) - Marked Tree High School will soon have its first graduating class of seniors who were required to do community service as a part of their curriculum.

The seniors began their service work during their 9th-grade year and some of them said they plan to continue giving back after they graduate.

One student volunteered through the Special Olympics and said the community service work was beneficial for her.

"It helped me talk to them and understand the way that they think, and it helped me think better of them and better of myself," said Dejania Thomas. "It changed my attitude towards people."

School officials are proud of the program and hope to continue inspiring students to give back even beyond high school.
