JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

UPDATE Oct. 11: The City of Jonesboro Finance Committee advanced a plan to buy the land by Joe Mack Campbell Park at their meeting Tuesday night.

According to Parks and Recreation Director Wixon Huffstetler, the committee approved buying the 72 acres for $540,000.

He said there are no specific plans for the property, but said it is possible it could include more ball fields and an aquatic center.

The proposal will now move on to the full city council at their meeting on Oct. 18.

The city of Jonesboro could soon own more than 70 acres of land on Dan Avenue.

The land in question is right beside Joe Mack Campbell Park.

On Oct. 11, the city council finance committee will meet to discuss an agreement on the property. The agreement is between the City of Jonesboro and the Lacy Family Trust.

Per that agreement, part of the land will be donated, while part of it will be sold to the city. The agreement states that the property has a value of $1.1 million.

The city hasn't said yet what they plan to do with the land.
