A Better Region 8: Jonesboro's mayoral race also important to residents outside the city

Here in Region 8, we've been talking about the upcoming Jonesboro Mayoral Debate of Record and what it means to the people of Jonesboro.  Last Saturday, My wife and I were out shopping when a nice gentleman struck up a conversation with me. In that conversation, I asked him if he was going to watch the mayoral debate.  His reply: "I'm from Pocahontas, the Jonesboro Mayor's race doesn't impact me."

But it does.

This gentleman drove over 40 miles from his home to shop in one of the largest and busiest stores in Jonesboro. He is reflective of thousands of people every week who come to Jonesboro from other Region 8 cities to shop, go to the doctor, buy a car or go to Church.

That means if you live out of town but come to Jonesboro because the city has all the conveniences, then you are using the city's roads and depend on its police and fire departments to keep you safe while you are here. If you are shopping here, then you are paying sales tax into the Jonesboro economy. In other words, the city of Jonesboro and the person who runs it does impact you.

As Jonesboro grows, the better it is able to serve everyone in Region 8.

So join us for the Jonesboro Mayoral Debate of Record, Tuesday at 6 p.m. LIVE right here on both KAIT stations, kait8.com, and the Region 8 News App.

Realizing that we’re all in this together makes this A Better Region 8.
