OSCEOLA, AR (KAIT) - Fall sports in Osceola have seen a boom in participation this year.
Right now, the Osceola Parks and Recreation Department is in the middle of their fall sports schedule which includes flag football, tackle football, soccer, and cheerleading.
Kids are not only learning how to play sports, but they are learning life skills.
"We have a great volunteer base," Osceola Parks and Recreation Director Michael Ephlin said. "We have coaches that volunteer every year for every sport. They are the ones that make this happen. They are the ones that do this."
The volunteers teach the kids to be good citizens. Ephlin believes they need to take care of their kids and make them good, young adults.
Many of the coaches not only coach fall sports but also winter and summer sports.
Right now, Ephlin said they have around 40 kids in their program.
He hopes the numbers triple.
"We're just happy to see the kids here," Ephlin said. "It's what it is all about for us. It gives them something to do. It keeps them out of trouble and it gets them to look forward to something in life."
Ephlin also said there is an 11-month dance program available.
