OSCEOLA, AR (KAIT) - New playground equipment at Irma Belcher Park was found vandalized in Osceola.
Osceola Parks and Recreation Director Michael Ephlin said repairs to the equipment did not cost the city any money, but it could cost the children.
Ephlin said that if the vandalism continues, the city cannot continue to pour money into the park.
Osceola resident Odessa Anderson believes the city is on a downfall, but things were looking up with the park.
"That's the best thing to ever happen to the city of Osceola, for the kids," Anderson said. "It is a shame that people just go around and demolish it for no reason at all."
Anderson said it doesn't just affect the city, it affects the kids too.
"I sit on my porch daily and I watch kids go over there," Anderson said, "And in the summer time, when school was out, that was their spot."
She believes the park is a good place for kids to have clean fun. She said if vandalism forces the city to stop putting money into the park, it will hurt the children in the community.
"There is a lot of good things over there for the kids," Anderson said. "I feel like if the vandalism doesn't, it's going to be a sad thing for the kids. It may not affect the bigger ones, the teenagers, it will definitely affect the little ones."
Osceola police have added extra police presence in the area.
