JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Police arrested a Jonesboro man early Wednesday morning after they say he severely beat a woman, sending her to the hospital.
Ervin Hill, 34, is being held in the Craighead County Detention Center, charged with felony aggravated assault.
According to the initial incident report, Hill struck the 31-year-old victim "multiple times on the head, ribs, and right leg" with a closed fist.
At one point, the victim said Hill choked her and grabbed her hair, pulling with his full body weight.
After he had finished beating her, the woman told police Hill threatened to kill her and himself.
He then made her promise not to call police before releasing her about an hour later, the report stated. She told police "she had to lie" and promise to blame a woman for the beating so she could leave.
The woman then drove to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.
According to the report, the victim's left eye "was almost swollen shut," and her cheek and jaw were also starting to swell.
The officer also noticed red, oval blotches on her neck along with scratch marks on her neck, shoulder, and shin.
The woman, according to the report, struggled to breathe and could not stand up straight due to injuries to her ribs.
The victim said she and Hill had dated for approximately two years, but broke up six months ago.
Officers arrested Hill a short time later at a home in the 200-block of State Street.
He is awaiting a probable cause hearing.
