James McGreevey once said: "We are losing sight of civility in government and politics. Debate and dialogue are taking a back seat to the politics of destruction and anger and control. Dogma has replaced thoughtful discussion between people of differing views."
In this election season, it's obvious that his quote is holding true especially in the presidential debates.
I'm thankful the 2016 Jonesboro Mayoral Debate of Record didn't follow the current trend.
This week, all 6 candidates for Jonesboro mayor gathered at Jonesboro High School to answer questions on the issues impacting the city and ultimately the rest of Region 8.
Every candidate had their say.
The tone of the debate was respectful, informative and most important to all of us here at KAIT, it was civil.
One more time, Region 8 set the example on how things should be done.
If you missed the Jonesboro Mayoral Debate of Record or if you want to see it again you can watch it on kait8.com and the Region 8 News app.
I am proud of the team here at KAIT for putting together a non-biased and informative mayoral debate.
Giving the candidates the chance to tell us about what they stand for, and listening to what they have to say makes this A Better Region 8.
