LITTLE ROCK, AR - The Arkansas Supreme Court has ruled that the state's public school districts can be sued.
The court ruled that Arkansas districts didn't become protected from lawsuits when the high court declared in a 2002 ruling that the state is ultimately responsible for the public school system.
The court's statement answered a question posed by a federal judge presiding over four separate but similar complaints filed in 2003 against three Arkansas school districts...Dermott, Eudora and Forrest City.
The complaints were filed by dozens of teacher's aides, maintenance workers and other employees who claimed they did not get paid overtime rates for thousands of hours of work.
