JONESBORO, Ark. (10/17/16) – Arkansas State senior cornerback Chris Humes has been named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week after he forced and recovered a fumble that he returned 60 yards for a touchdown in A-State's 17-7 victory over South Alabama this past Saturday.
Humes, who also recorded four tackles and 0.5 TFL, posted the Red Wolves' first defensive score this season with 12:50 left in the second quarter to put the Arkansas State on top 7-0. The fumble return tied the fourth longest in school history, and it also marked the first time an A-State player found the end zone on a fumble return since Nov. 5 of last season against Appalachian State.
Humes was part of an A-State defense that allowed just 255 yards total offense, which was the fewest by an A-State opponent since ULM recorded 252 last season on Nov. 14. The seven points allowed by the defense was also the fewest against an FBS opponent since shutting out Middle Tennessee in the Red Wolves' last regular-season game of the 2012 season.
Arkansas State continues a four-game home stand Saturday, Oct. 29 when the team hosts Louisiana-Monroe at 6 p.m. at Centennial Bank Stadium.
