NEW ORLEANS, La. (10/19/2016) – Arkansas State men’s basketball senior guard Devin Carter was named Preseason All-Conference First Team while the Red Wolves were selected 10th in the preseason poll announced by the league office Wednesday.

The preseason poll and all-conference teams were selected by the league’s 12 head coaches. UT Arlington was named the preseason favorite by the league coaches after tallying 140 points while defending champion Little Rock was selected to finish second. Georgia State earned 114 points, just three points ahead of fourth place Georgia Southern while new league member Coastal Carolina garnered 88 points to rank fifth.

South Alabama was picked sixth with 75 points followed by UL Lafayette (70), UL Monroe (59) and Troy (54). A-State picked up 46 points in the poll to rank ahead of Appalachian State (28) and Texas State (27).

Joining Carter on the Preseason First Team All-Conference squad were Georgia Southern sophomore guard Tookie Brown, Little Rock senior guard Marcus Johnson Jr. and UT Arlington junior guard Erick Neal. UT Arlington junior forward Kevin Hervey was chosen the Preseason Player of the Year to round out the first team.

Carter readies for his senior campaign as the second-leading returning scorer in the Sun Belt this year. The Champaign, Ill., native averaged 17.3 points while shooting 45.8 percent from the floor. Carter buried 88 three-point field goals on the season to rank tied for the third-most in single season program history and his 17.3 points per game were the highest average by an A-State player since the 2007-08 season.
