Paragould Police Have Man In Custody for Homicide

Friday, May 13, 2005-- Posted at 11:18 p.m. CDT; Updated Saturday May 14, 2005--5:00 pm CDT

PARAGOULD-- Paragould police confirm the death of a Paragould woman is now a homicide investigation.  Late Friday night fire officials responded to a house fire.  Upon arrival they discovered a female body described to be in her mid-thirties.  At the time officials would not say if they suspected foul play to be involved in her death.  In a press release released early Saturday morning police released the name of the woman found dead.

The report lists 36 year old Lisa Cochran as the victim.  Cochran’s husband told K8 News that his wife was suffering from Huntington’s Chorea, a disease which effects the nervous system.  He says his wife had lost many basic functions due to the illness and was very sick.

Family members added they know the man police have in custody.  They claim he was actually at the scene while police and fire officials dealt with the body and the fire.  The report lists the man in custody as a 28 year old local man.

The report doesn’t detail much of what police believe occurred late Friday night but K8 News located the two men responsible for pulling Cochran’s body out of the fire.  Tryson Hudson and Billy Knight were driving through the neighborhood when they say they saw smoke billowing out of a house.  They say after talking to a local neighbor they decided Cochran was probably in the home and decided to enter.

“I pulled her out to the front porch and then her head just flopped back it was nothing but blood and bone.” Tryson Hudson said.  “I just went hysterical…I jumped probably like ten feet in the air.”

It was also a long night for Knight and Hudson.  Police suspected they were responsible for Cochran’s death for part of the night.
