Volunteer fire department holds fall festival

SWIFTON, AR (KAIT) -

The Swifton Volunteer Fire Department held a Fall Festival to raise money for the department on Saturday.

This is the department's 3rd annual festival and they use the money raised to help purchase new equipment and supplies.

Vendors from Swifton and surround communities donated their time and goods to help raise money.

"Everything we get, we don't have to buy anything," said Captain Drake Slagley.  "Everybody just gives because we are a volunteer fire department."

There was also an auction, live music, and food at the event.

The first year the department held the festival they were able to purchase a brush truck and they hope to buy a new fire truck this year.

"This is the only way that we can be able to make our money throughout the year for what we need to upgrade our equipment and purchase medical supplies," said Slagley.  "Last year we raised $11,000, and we're hoping to do better this year."

According to Slagley, the department hopes to raise enough money this year to purchase a new truck and medical supplies.
