SWIFTON, AR (KAIT) - A Swifton man will soon be flying an antique airplane that he built.
Kenny Crider started flying in his 20's and is a second generation crop duster by trade.
Crider recently finished building a Pietenpol Aircamper after starting work on it three years ago.
"I love to tinker and create things," said Crider. "This really has been a labor of love for the past three years."
The plane is an antique, and he used a World War II-era Jeep engine as the plane's motor.
Crider said similar planes take longer to build and very few are ever completed.
Crider is particularly proud of the plane's propeller which he made by hand.
Crider said the project was worth it and plans to start on other projects as well.
"I have a little more spare time since my work is seasonal and I just stay out in my shop and piddle," said Crider. "A few years ago when they had the motorcycle craze going on I built a motorcycle."
"I'm looking for my next project, I don't know what it's going to be," added Crider.
The plane will soon undergo inspection and after that Crider said he would begin flying it for pleasure.
