JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - With election season picking up the pace, so has the stress associated with it.
Psychologist Dr. Kristin Addison-Brown said her older, adult patients are suffering from stress due to the upcoming November election.
Brown said for people with an anxiety disorder or depression, watching election coverage on TV or online could have negative effects.
"It can really sort of push them over the edge clinically and symptomatically to where the individuals complaining, they may not recognize where the problem's coming from but often times their family sure does," Brown said.
Brown said she has even recommended to some of her patients to shut off their televisions entirely.
She said stressed patients can suffer from cardiovascular issues or sleep disorders.
Brown also said in addition to the election coverage, social media may play a role in increasing stress levels.
