Cardwell looking for new fire chief and assistant

CARDWELL, MO (KAIT) - The Cardwell City Council voted to dismiss the fire chief and assistant fire chief of their duties.

Mayor Jesse Taylor said that Chief Richard Lyell and Assistant Chief Lonnie Ward broke regulations by allowing cadets to go on fire runs after being told they could not.

The city council will decide who will replace the two men.

Both positions are volunteer positions.

The mayor said the decision to fire the two had been a long time coming.

While the city looks for replacements for Lyell and Ward, other volunteer firefighters will do the duties of the two along with help from other departments.
