JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Jonesboro Police Department has worked nearly 30 counterfeit cash cases in the past few months.
Compared to the same time frame last year, they've worked double the amount of reports from area businesses and restaurants.
Jonesboro police released to Region 8 News the number of counterfeit cash cases they worked from August 1, 2015, to October 25, 2015.
In that time frame, JPD investigated 13 cases of counterfeit cash.
During the same period in 2016, JPD worked 26 cases.
Sometimes, the fake cash is used to buy expensive items. Other times, it's used to buy inexpensive items to get real cash back.
Of the 26 cases reported to JPD since August 1, 2016, only five remain active investigations.
In 2014, JPD and the Secret Service investigated fake $100 bills circulating around town. They were labeled "For Motion Picture Use Only."
