Conway - One university in Arkansas will honor its veterans with a new memorial on campus.

The University of Central Arkansas plans to dedicate the new War Memorial during a Veterans Day ceremony Thursday, Nov. 3 at 1:40 p.m.

Located at the north end of McAlister Hall on campus, the memorial includes names of fallen student alumni from World War I, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Somalia and the War on Terror.

The statue stands nearly seven feet tall and seven feet wide, weighs approximately 7,000 pounds, and is illuminated with lights each night.

"It is fitting and proper that we honor our alums who have made the ultimate sacrifice for us," said UCA President Tom Courtway. "With this memorial and the World War II memorial, we now have all of our alums listed. While we pray and hope additional names will never be added, there is room to do so. We, as a community, are very grateful and proud as we dedicate this memorial."

Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin will serve as keynote speaker during the event.
