TRUMANN, AR (KAIT) -

One animal shelter in Region 8 is desperately asking for food donations as they continue to take in new pets.

Members of the Trumann Animal Pet Savers said someone stole 150 pounds of dog food by breaking into an outside shed.

The thief then took the bags, leaving no food behind for six of the 15 dogs in the shelter’s care.

Volunteer Ambrea Owens said this puts them in a deeper bind because the shelter is $1,000 in debt with vet bills.

“When you're in debt up to a thousand plus dollars with the vet's office, 100 pounds of dog food can make or break a rescue," Owens said. "We don't have the money ourselves to take out of pocket to purchase food for these dogs always, that's a lot of food and that's a lot of hungry dogs."

She urges anyone with information on who stole the dog food to call police.

Owens said anyone willing to donate can and that every penny helps. According to their Facebook page, dog food donations can be dropped off at Victory Insurance at 331 Hwy. 463 North in Trumann or mailed there via Amazon.
