Three inmates beat jailor, escape, then caught

SHARP COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

According to the Sharp County Sheriff's Office, three inmates beat a jailor and then escaped the county jail early Sunday morning.

According to a press release, the three inmates escaped around 12:12 a.m. and then were caught around 5:30 a.m. about two miles from the jail. 

According to Detective Aaron Presser with the sheriff’s office, the three hid in a water treatment facility.

Presser also said the three stole clothes, water, and food from that water treatment facility.

Deputies say 26-year-old Jeffery Major Harris, 20-year-old Dylan Cole Thompson, and 25-year-old Joshua Keith Ray, beat a jailor who went back to do a jail check. 

There were four inmates in the cell, and those three managed to get out.

The three men were taken into custody without incident about two miles south of the Sharp County Jail by the North Central Unit Chase Team, and Highland Police Chief Shane Russell. 

All three men will now be charged with escape, aggravated assault on a police officer, commercial burglary, and theft of property. 

Jeffery Major was in jail on felony drug charges. 

Dylan Cole Thompson was being held on felony drug charges and battery.

Joshua Keith Ray was being held on felony drug charges and parole bond. 

Presser said the department had made some temporary security changes to so the public can feel safe again.

Presser went on to say the department will look to see if any permanent security changes need to be made as well.

The jailor escaped the incident with only minor injuries. He is expected to be back at work soon.

Assisting in the search were the Sharp County Sheriff's Department, Ash Flat Police Department, Highland Police Department, Cherokee Village Police Department, Izard County Sheriff's Department, Lawrence County Sheriff's Department, Hardy Police Department, Ravenden Police Department, North Central Unit Chase Team, and the Grimes Unit Chase Team.
