NEWPORT, AR (KAIT) -

An inmate at the Jackson County jail was airlifted to a hospital after he reportedly got into a fight with another inmate.

A sheriff's deputy was called to the Jackson County Detention Center around 4 p.m. on Oct. 23.

According to a report from the sheriff's office, inmate Harold Bramlett got into a fight with fellow inmate Daryl Watlington. Watlington admitted to hitting Bramlett until he fell on the floor and then hit him again.

Deputy Justin Collom said in the report that he got a call from Detention Sgt. Dana Roberts about the incident. Roberts told Collom she saw two jailers helping Bramlett down the stairs to a nearby ambulance.

Later, Watlington told authorities he struck Bramlett with his fist causing Bramlett to fall to the floor, Collom said.

The report says Bramlett was hit a second time; and hit his head on either a table or seat inside a cell. He was later airlifted to UAMS in Little Rock.

Watlington was charged with battery in connection with the incident.
