JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Arkansas native Barrett Baber will release his first album later this week. Since making it to the finals of The Voice on NBC last year, Baber said his life has been a whirlwind.

"That's a good way to describe it. Sometimes it's a very strong whirlwind. Sometimes it's just a slight breeze but most of the time it's been a whirlwind of activity," Baber said. "Working really hard, on tour like crazy, playing tons of shows, getting out there, and doing everything I can to keep the ball rolling."

Baber sat down with Region 8 News via Skype Tuesday. He said to keep the ball rolling, he will release his first full-length country record. Baber said it has 13 tracks, with 12 original songs and one "sneaky little cover" he thinks people will love.

"I think it's going to be a great stepping stone for me as an artist, as somebody who's been doing this a long time and had a great run on The Voice thanks to the kind people of Arkansas and places like Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Northeast Arkansas, where I've got some roots and connections," Baber said. "I needed to jump in the studio and record some original music and prove to the masses and certainly people in the industry as well that I'm an artist that has real staying power and has the ability to transition off of a reality TV show and into an actual career as a musician."

Baber said he couldn't be more pleased with how the album sounds.

"I think people are going to see right away that I'm using the opportunity that was given to me by the people of Arkansas on The Voice to turn this thing into something really special," Baber said.

Baber, who will be at the Country Music Awards Nov. 3 in Nashville, said though he feels his wife Sarah will steal the show, he's excited to see some of the people he grew up watching in person.

"I'm most excited to see some of the performances tomorrow and get to see someone like Garth Brooks in person and root on people that I really like," Baber said. "That is a surreal moment for sure but also one that I relish and try not to be too much of a fan boy and geek out when I see people that I really like."

Baber said he's also excited to see artists like Maren Morris, Chris Stapleton, and Dan + Shay.

Baber said he's happy to be in Nashville for the CMA's representing the state of Arkansas.

"I am one of the people that, I don't forget where I came from. It's easy for me to remember that this time last year, I was just sort of hoping that something good would happen on The Voice and it did," Baber said. "I pinch myself very often and I am living the dream and it's because of the great people of Arkansas and my fans who supported me and I'm just so grateful for that."

Baber's album will be released Friday, Nov. 4. A CD version will be available on his website and digital downloads are available on all major platforms.
