BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) - The Blytheville School District is looking to get a millage increase to upgrade its athletic facilities, while also benefiting teachers.
Athletic Director David Hixson said the gym and football stadium are several years old.
He said they are pouring too much money into repairs and upkeep. The district is looking to upgrade the facilities to save money.
Hixson told Region 8 News they spend about $25,000 a year to keep up the football field. The district has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars within the past 10 years on gym repairs.
The district is pushing to get a new gym, turf on the football field, and make several upgrades to the facilities.
Hixson is hopeful they can get a millage increase for the estimated $6.5 million project on the ballot in February.
The millage increase would also benefit teachers' pay. Hixson said the funds would go towards pay increases for teachers throughout the district.
The proposed plan will go before the school board in three weeks as it is pending approval.
