State Threatens to Shut Down Crittenden County Landfill

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality is threatening to close down the Crittenden County landfill.  ADEQ experts say the landfill goes over permitted elevations, can't meet a 30-day overfill deadline, houses types of waste that it isn't licensed to take and doesn't have enough dirt to cover piles of waste.

If the landfill closes it would leave no landfills in the eastern district.

The East Solid Waste Regional District has hired consultants to determine how much money must be raised to bring the landfill into compliance with the ADEQ requests.
