Police searching for suspect in break-ins

WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) - 3:56 p.m. UPDATE: Carson Gates faces a boatload of charges in connection with an investigation last month, Walnut Ridge Police Chief Chris Kirksey said Thursday.

Kirksey said Gates faces seven counts of felony breaking or entering, one count each of felony theft of property, possession of a firearm by certain persons, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with physical evidence, six counts of misdemeanor theft of property and misdemeanor fleeing.

A suspect wanted for breaking into vehicles is still wanted by police after he escaped from them.

On Oct. 28 authorities tracked Carson Gates to a house in the 1800-block of Ashley Street in Walnut Ridge.

According to Walnut Ridge Police Chief Chris Kirksey, Gates went into a shop building, slammed an overhead door on officers and escaped through a window.

Walnut Ridge police, Hoxie police and the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department were unable to find Gates.

However, authorities did find evidence in the shop connecting him to the break-ins, Kirksey said.

Kirksey also said he was able to speak with Gates on the phone and asked him to surrender to police. Gates reportedly refused.

More evidence stolen from the vehicles was found along County Road 451 and Paradise Road, including stolen IDs.

The chief said other suspects may be involved in the crimes.

If found, they will face tampering with physical evidence and hindering apprehension charges.

As for Gates, if found call 911 or the Walnut Ridge Police Department at (870) 886-3568.
