Arkansas Poll: Trump, Boozman lead as campaign draws to close

FAYETTEVILLE, AR (KAIT) -

An annual statewide poll released this week shows Republicans Donald Trump and Sen. John Boozman leading their Democratic opponents by large margins.

In the Arkansas Poll, created by the Political Science Department at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Trump leads Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton by a 59-36 margin. In the U.S. Senate race, Boozman, who is seeking a second term, leads Democrat Conner Eldridge 61-38 percent.

Both Boozman and Eldridge visited Northeast Arkansas Thursday.

The poll was conducted Oct. 18-25, with 800 people randomly selected to participate in the poll.

Janine Parry, a political science professor at the University of Arkansas, said the polling over the past 18 years has provided some definite details.

"The thing I tend to focus on after 18 years and more than 13,000 interviews is the tremendous stability in public opinion. Other than the shift happening with independents placing them closer to the Republican party and some movement in the 'most important issue', Arkansans hold the same opinions year after year," Parry said. "That gives me confidence that we're capturing something real, and not just the noise of any particular election cycle."

The poll results can be seen by visiting the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences website.
