JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Those seeking to pass Issue 6 and get a prescription for medical marijuana may face firearm restrictions.

Although passing the issue would legalize medical marijuana on a state level, under federal law owning a gun and having the prescription would be illegal.

According to a ruling by the United States 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, the ban does not violate people's Second Amendment rights.

However, several say they feel gun ownership should not be affected by having a marijuana prescription.

"I personally feel that if someone can pass a background check, and all their requirements that it takes, they should be able to own a gun.  I don't feel like that someone should be necessarily penalized because they have that condition and that's the only way they can treat it," said Paula Chavers.

"Well there are people that get prescribed hydrocodone that do worse damage on the highway than people who are smoking marijuana," said James Newsom.

The public will cast their final ballots, deciding whether Issue 6 will pass or fail, next Tuesday.
