BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) -

Police say suspects tried to scoop up cash when they attempted to knock over an ATM with heavy machinery.

Just before 5 a.m. Tuesday Blytheville police officers were called to Southern Bancorp at 1040 S. Division St. for "strange activity."

Officers found a backhoe in the drive-through lane for the ATM, according to Capt. Scott Adams, Criminal Investigation Division Commander.

A witness told officers a white male tried to knock the machine over with the backhoe.

Adams said damage was caused to the building as the suspect tried to break the ATM open.

The same witness saw two suspects drive away in a white, 4-door SUV.

While trying to get away, the suspects drove over a curb and got stuck. They eventually freed themselves and drove south on Division, according to Adams.

Officer found tracks from the backhoe on Mchaney Dr. leading through the alley to the bank.

No arrests have been reported in the case.
