JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Nearly 37 percent of registered voters in Craighead County voted early this election season, officials said this week.

When early voting ended Monday night, 22,355 people had cast ballots at either the election annex in Jonesboro or the courthouse in Lake City.

Craighead County Clerk Kade Holliday said Oct. 27 that the county surpassed 6,800 votes cast, breaking the record set in March 2012.

The numbers were about the same as statewide figures released Tuesday morning by the Arkansas Secretary of State's office. Spokesman Chris Powell said 606,332 people had voted early statewide during the two-week period, which ended Monday.
