JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A vote dealing with the manufacture or sale of alcohol in the Shady Grove Township of Greene County was approved on Tuesday.
In unofficial numbers from the Secretary of State's office, the vote passed by 37 to 25 or a 60-40% margin.
This mean the township will remain 'wet.'
However, absentee votes still have not been counted, election officials in Greene County said.
There has been controversy in the past week or so over the vote.
The Arkansas State Police launched a criminal investigation Thursday into allegations of voter fraud on the issue. The investigation was started after 2nd Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington asked ASP to look into the allegations.
The questions centered around the number of registered voters in the township, which straddles Craighead and Lawrence counties.
In the letter, Ellington said the number of registered voters in the township went up 45% between June and late October.
