JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment of 2016 is expected to pass, according to Talk Business and Politics.
As of 10:20 p.m., Issue 6 has a 30,000 vote lead. The Secretary of State's office puts the vote at 382,943 (52%) For and 352,405 (48%) Against.
According to the University of Arkansas Extension Service, the amendment would allow for the medical use of marijuana under state law but acknowledges that the use, possession or distribution of marijuana would be illegal under federal law.
Discussion over the amendment has been heated in recent weeks as both supporters and opponents went around the state to make their points known.
A similar proposal failed in 2012 by a 52-48% margin.
