WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) -

A veterans group is honoring those who served while also trying to raise money to spread Christmas cheer.

The Vietnam Vets and Legacy Vets will host a fundraising event Saturday, Nov. 12.

They will sell barbecue butts for $25 all day Saturday at 8802 West 412 between Walnut Ridge and Paragould.

The money raised will be used to buy stadium blankets for vets across Region 8.

Kenny Wright, the event organizer, said the blankets will have the military symbol and name of each veteran.

They plan to give them to veterans living in nursing homes in Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas.

Wright said they are raising money to purchase more than 107 blankets before delivery around Christmas.

Saturday’s event will coincide with a meal free for veterans.

Each vet who stops by from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. can get a free barbecue plate and soda.

Wright invites all veterans to attend.

If you have any questions about the event, contact Wright at 870-208-3970.
