CORNING, AR (KAIT) - A town in Clay County is seeing a large increase in business after the new PECO plant opened earlier this year.
Corning city councilman and ACE Hardware employee Danny Moore said it was tough at times trying to help create business when businesses were closing. Also, the building of the multi-million dollar facility served as a morale boost for the town.
Moore also said that once PECO opened its doors, contractors came to ACE to purchase equipment, which helped serve as great business for the store. Moore added he believes that other businesses also got to see a boost from PECO's arrival.
"It was a boost for our business," Moore said. "I'm sure other businesses in town also saw a boost. Restaurants and other places saw great business, and when PECO themselves opened, it really helped."
He added the facility opening will not only continue to have a positive effect on local business, but also creates a rippling effect for more jobs in the future.
"There should be job opportunities for other businesses to come in here. For instance, they have maybe 100 trucks on the road. Somebody needs to put in a tire shop, a truck repair shop, a truck stop, somebody takes care of these truck drivers that are coming and going."
Moore said he knows PECO is a great place to work with and, with the uptick in local business, they have helped create a great community relationship.
