JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A Jonesboro woman faces multiple animal cruelty charges after police say they found several starving dogs in her home.

Police arrested 46-year-old Tonja McDaniel at her home in the 4200-block of Sage Meadows Boulevard.

On Tuesday, a Jonesboro Animal Control officer, responding to a neighbor's report, found two “very emaciated” dogs in the backyard.

While transporting the animals to the veterinarian, one of the dogs died, the initial incident report stated.

On Wednesday, police served McDaniel with a search warrant.

Inside the home, officers reported finding three more malnourished dogs. They also found a dead dog inside a box.

Officers arrested McDaniel and took her to the Craighead County Detention Center. She was cited on five counts of animal cruelty and left to await a probable cause hearing.
