BROOKLAND, AR (KAIT) - A Brookland High School Counselor will soon be a guest of the First Lady.
Kami Barkley is one of the 50 counselors across the nation chosen to be honored in Washington D.C.
The counselor said she is thrilled to be chosen for this once in a lifetime experience.
"It is a huge honor that my co-counselors believed in me and gave me this honor," said Barkley.
Barkley was originally nominated for regional counselor of the year by a group of her peers.
She then went on to win a spot as one of the three counselors in the state named counselor of the year.
After this she was selected as the recipient of the trip to D.C.
"I still haven't digested it all yet," she said. "It's not going to really hit me until I'm actually there."
In January Barkley will attend brunch with the first lady and in the evening she will be a guest of a gala at Union Station.
She is also allowed one guest and she has chosen someone close to her heart.
"I am taking my son," said Barkley. "He is very excited to be able to go to the White House and to share all of this with me."
