JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - There's a chance the Diamond Grill in Jonesboro could be torn down in the coming months.
The property owner plans to ask the city to rezone the property in late November.
If the plan goes through, the 7-acre piece of land will no longer house the Diamond Grill.
In his rezoning request to the city, property owner Cesar Islas states 7 buildings with 112 apartment units will take its place.
"The gated, upscale development is likely to increase property values, have 4.76% increase impact on traffic, and no impact on drainage," Islas states in his zoning application.
The Jonesboro Metropolitan Area Planning Commission will consider the request on November 29 at 5:30 p.m.
If approved, the request will then go before the Jonesboro City Council.
The Diamond Grill has been open since November 2013. It was previously home to the Eagles Lodge.
